Mother works at Morne Coubaril Estate where she demonstrates traditional agricultural activities to tourists, including cocoa, copra, and manioc processing. She walks with them on an original street formerly used by mule carriages, and takes them on a visit to a workers' village. A major new road has been constructed around Le Toc Point south west of Castries. This makes access easier to the main road system, avoiding the hair pin bends over Morne Fortune. She can now get to work much easier.

Father is a chef at Hummingbird Beach Resort in Soufriere. –Tourists have said the following of the hotel: ‘The Hummingbird is a cute, small, rustic hotel on the ocean with great views of the Pitons. The hotel is close to town so you can walk there. The staff are friendly and helpful. The pool is nice, but small. The restaurant on property is very good. The beach is nothing to write home about, but just a boat ride away to some really nice beaches where you can snorkel.’

Playing with friends, going to the market in Castries, exploring the rainforest, cricket.

Economy overview

Changes in the EU import preference regime and the increased competition from Latin American bananas have made economic diversification increasingly important in Saint Lucia. The island nation has been able to attract foreign business and investment, especially in its offshore banking and tourism industries. The manufacturing sector is the most diverse in the Eastern Caribbean area, and the government is trying to revitalize the banana industry. Economic fundamentals remain solid, even though unemployment needs to be cut.
