We are the UK National Centre for renewable fuels and materials. Find out how farmers grow the crops and how scientists, designers and engineers convert plants – with leaves, flowers and roots – into fuels, plastics, medicines and houses!

The world of non-food crops is an exciting place, full of different materials, colours and experiences. We want people to enjoy finding out about them.
Educational resources are on our website www.nnfcc.co.uk and we run activities at shows and exhibitions. In 2007 we play a part in the BA Festival of Science. A great way to deliver the Sustainable Schools agenda, we help schools implement doorway themes.
There is no charge. We develop our resources with partners and welcome requests to contribute.
We help build supply chains for plant-derived renewable materials so good ideas become products to buy. We do this by providing independent advice to farmers, industry, Government and the media. Government and industrial sponsors fund NNFCC.
The Centre was established in 2003 with funding from Defra, a UK Government Department.

• We present workshops and fun activities at summer agricultural shows (3 counties, Great Yorkshire, Royal Show in 2007; maybe more next year!). We also attend Discovery Days (York’s annual science festival), the BA Festival of Science and other science fairs that we get to hear about in other regions.
• We contribute to SETPOINT sustainable schools workshops for teachers.
• We are the national centre for renewable materials, so are interested in events all across the UK.

Carbon footprint game, Carbon angels. True or false game.
Magnets, stickers, manga cartoon give-aways.
Interactive games and fun activities. Something for children and adults. We try to be entertaining. We link into science, geography, citizenship, design, business studies… there are many parts of the curriculum which are impinged upon by renewable fuels and materials.
Which key stages are they aimed at?
All Key Stages.
