Glendale Agricultural Society's primary role is the organisation and staging of the annual Glendale Show at Wooler in North Northumberland on August Bank Holiday Monday. In June 2007 the Society held its third Children’s Countryside Day with 1500 first school children from all over Northumberland and North Tyneside attending. This is now a very successful annual event which is free to schools and is funded by a number of outside organisations, funding bodies and local businesses.
Key Stage 1&2 Children.
A Children’s Countryside Day is run by the Society, annually in June and schools with year 3 and 4 children are invited to take part from across Northumberland and Tyneside. The Society welcomes enquiries from schools that have not been invited to attend before.
The schools come to the Glendale Showfield and are able to see approximately 50 different exhibitors who demonstrate and discuss with the children their special skills. For example, they can see a range of farm livestock, sheep being sheared, milk Glenys the cardboard cow, watch a combine harvester in action, plant seeds, knead bread, watch birds of prey in flight, learn about solar and wind power and try dry-stone walling, amongst other things.
We provide packs of information to the schools after the Children’s Event but this is just information provided by the particular exhibitors who are there on the day and relevant to their exhibits.
We can put schools in touch with members of the Society who are CEVAS trained who can arrange visits out to farms in the Glendale area.
