Wool is a natural and sustainable fibre with a multitude of uses.

Many millions of sheep that contribute fleeces to the annual UK wool crop are farmed in some of the most environmentally important upland areas of the UK.

The British Wool Marketing Board is keen to encourage a greater awareness of the importance of wool and fully supports the work of FACE in its educational role.

The British Wool Marketing Board is pleased to provide help and assistance to anyone requiring further information about the way wool is produced and would suggest the BWMB’s web-site (www.britishwool.org.uk) as a starting point.

The web-site’s education page provides full details of a range of resources and aids available from the BWMB including posters and books. These include our fact files – “From Sheep to Showroom” which covers every stage of the production of wool carpet and the “Wool Fact File” which includes details of several British sheep breeds. Both provide samples of wool.

Wherever possible the BWMB is pleased to provide contacts with sheep producers who have facilities to cater for school visits and welcomes enquiries from teachers and others who would like to learn more about the way British wool is produced and marketed.
