jimandjakeTwo dogs, Jim and Jake, and their friends on the farm are helping Primary School pupil through Key Stages 1 and 2 English in a new series of six books about their lives in the countryside.

The Brookfield Books follow the prescribed work for terms 1, 2 and 3 for each year of the National Curriculum English primary school education. Therefore phonics, spelling, vocabulary, grammar and punctuation are introduced in the same order as they are presented in the classroom whilst the work from previous terms is also recapped throughout the books.
What makes the Brookfield Books entertaining for children is that they are about the lives of real animals and birds on a real smallholding. Their lives and what happens in the countryside are described through short descriptive text, humorous rhymes, poems, activities and stories and up to 80 photographs per book.
So, as well as English, children learn all about the British countryside, the creatures that live in it and the things that grow in it.  Above all, by keeping the books lighthearted and full of photographs, children at all levels of literacy attainment will find them engaging, informative as well as being, rather sneakily, very educational.
Pages carry brief explanatory boxes, one of which outlines the focus of the page as per the Curriculum whilst the other defines words used in the text about the countryside which children may not have not yet encountered.
Printed on high quality paper with laminated covers, the Brookfield Books feature the ever growing Brookfield Gang who all have names and are great characters.

Book 1 begins with:

Jim and Jake – a scruffy and inquisitive West Highland Terrier and a very kind hearted Springer Spaniel

Lenny and Lucy – a pair of playful geese whose hobbies are honking at the postman and splashing about in their paddling pool

Milly Molly, Mandy and Sam – big brown woolly sheep who love having their faces stroked and their chins tickled

Some cheeky chickens who like to patrol the garden and squawk at the dogs

And by Book 6 there’s more chickens, geese and some very very cute lambs.
