We are the Brassica Growers Association, and we represent growers of all Brassica vegetable crops in an industry with a combined value of over £600 million. We know that from Key Stage 2 onwards, the National Curriculum incorporates the growth of plants and where food comes from within science lessons.
We run a campaign called Love Your Greens, which helps raise awareness and educate consumers on the importance of eating Brassica vegetable crops. These include broccoli, kale, swede, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and cabbage.
The campaign focuses on targeting parents and children across the country, highlighting the benefits of eating Brassica vegetables and also educating people on how to incorporate them into their daily diet. Children are very much at the forefront of the campaign and we are keen to explore different methods of engaging them with vegetables.
We would like to invite you to request some seed packs for your school in order to grow vegetables with your pupils. It’s a great way for them to get involved and is aligned to the topics specified in the National Curriculum. We are sure you will agree that practical teaching about the process of growing the vegetables they eat is more engaging for children.
To request your seeds, please submit your details on the website at www.loveyourgreens.co.uk/free-seeds . The packs come with full instructions, and there is further information available on the website. There, you will find other activities for children, including colouring sheets, which may support your teaching. We also have a range of competitions for children to enter and be in the chance with winning an E-reader so do encourage your pupils to have a look as it’s a great prize.
If you require any further information, please call Georgia at The Little Big Voice on 0208 338 0188.
Many thanks and happy growing!
