Merthyr Farm Profile

Merthyr ('Martyr') Farm is a hill sheep and suckler cow enterprise.

It is owned by Caerwyn and Bet Roberts who farm in partnership with their son, Bryn. The hill farm covers 160 hectares within the Snowdonia National Park.

It is within an area designated under European legislation as a 'Less Favoured Area' (LFA).

The original holding of 50 hectares has been in the family since 1926. An adjoining farm of 27.5 hectares was bought in 1962 and the current holding was completed in 1976 with the purchase of Rhydgaled, a 10.5 hectare smallholding.

In January 1997, 16.8 hectares was purchased. This land is very close to the sea and is renowned for early growth in the Spring. The land is situated 3 miles from the hill farm.
