The current farm house is circa 1750 and was 'gentrified' around 1820 but the farm is probably on a site of medieval farmsteads. The Roman remains of the Wall and forts still dominate the landscape , less obvious though are the cultivation terraces that run the length of the farm left from a more intensive farming era when the Romans were feeding their garrison. Traces of Ridge and Furrow can be found near and around the farm. The traces of settlement have not been excavated or properly surveyed due to the site being an English Heritage protected site. | |
