These materials were originally produced by Farming and Countryside Education (FACE) for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to help farmers make the most of school visits arranged as part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme and Higher Level Entry Scheme. |
Syngenta also provided funding to make the materials more widely available.
These materials and templates can be adapted quickly and easily to reflect your own local situation, and the facilities and resources available for school parties.
We hope you will use this material to prepare a Farm Visit Pack for schools visiting your farm. The pack will help schools plan a safe and valuable visit taking advantage of the resources you are able to offer and causing minimum disruption to the working of the farm.
Please spend a few minutes reading through the explanation below and looking at the information. You will then be ready to create your own Farm Visit Pack. We have provided completed examples of some of the templates in Section 4; these will help you decide what kind of information you can include.
What’s included?
The materials are presented as five separate documents
1. Standard material to be used by all farms
This section consists of material to be included in all farm visit packs being produced through the Educational Access Option of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme and Higher Level Entry Scheme.
• Welcome • What is farming? • Learning opportunities • Things to remember when visiting the countryside • Advice to teachers (Health and safety) • The Country Code
