Introduction

Huge changes have recently taken place in the farming industry. These changes have transformed the nature of farming and many farmers have either sold their farms or have been forced to scale down their operation. The Government therefore, set up an independent commission to review the future of food and farming in the UK to help identify the nature - first - of the problems facing agriculture and then to suggest some of the potential solutions.

The commission, led by Sir Donald Curry, produced a report on the Future of Farming and Food and is referred to as the Curry Report. The government then launched ?The Strategy for Sustainable Farming and Food: Facing the Future, which builds on the broad themes identified by the Curry Commission on the Future of Farming and Food. More information about the Curry Commission and the Report can be obtained from the following website - www.sd-commission.gov.uk/pub/curry.
