Countryside Classroom logoCountryside Classroom, managed by FACE, held a successful partners' event at the House of Commons.

This was the first opportunity the 30 partners had been invited to meet following the successful launch of the Countryside Classroom initiative in September.  Countryside Classroom supports teachers and practitioners in using the 'outdoor classroom' as a resource across the curriculum for pupils of all ages.

The occasion was hosted by Lord Curry who has been instrumental in  the development of the project. Almost 60 attendees were given the chance to meet each other and undertook a speed-dating activity which, although the title made many nervous at first, turned out to be an extremely well structured and fruitful way to discuss potential joint activities. Some of the ideas which emerged were the creation of a show garden, joint teacher tarining and sharing of best practice.

The meeting was joined by a number of parliamentarians who were interested in Countryside Classroom and how they might help to spread the word. Liz Truss, Secretary of State for  Environment, Food & Rural Affairs had hoped to address the meeting but was called away to visit the flood-stricken North West.  George Eustice, Minister of State at Defra,  came along to offer support and Countryside Classroom values this show of interest from government.
