Activities on the farm are the same each week of the year: - Mating
- Farrowing
- Weaning
- Selection
- On and off testing of pigs
- Pressure washing
- Moving pigs
- Loading pigs for sale
- Building and equipment maintenance as required
From mating to farrowing (giving birth) takes 116 days. The piglets are weaned 24 days later. The sow then has 5 days before she is mated again. High levels of stockmanship, welfare and housing are considered by JSR to be the vital elements for humane animal production and provide freedom from: - Hunger and thirst
- Discomfort or pain
- Injury or disease
- Fear and stress
- Abnormal behaviour
